Welcome to Lost Forest Cabins, your peaceful retreat in the heart of Sam Houston National Forest. To help ensure a safe, respectful, and relaxing experience for all guests and to preserve the beauty of the forest, please take a moment to review the following Indoor and Outdoor Rules.
By staying with us, you acknowledge your agreement to these policies. Your cooperation is truly appreciated!

Check-In & Check-Out

  • Check-in: from 3:00 PM
  • Check-out: by 12:00 PM (noon)
  • Early check-in/late check-out may be requested and is subject to availability and added fee.

Indoor Rules

  • Bunk Bed Safety If the property includes bunk beds, you acknowledge and accept the potential risks associated with their use, especially for children. By staying at the property, you agree to supervise children at all times when using the bunk beds and to ensure they follow all safety instructions.


Before checking out, please:

  • Ensure all cooktop and appliances are turned off.
  • Confirm all campfires are fully extinguished.
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Close all windows and doors.
  • Leave the keys in the lockbox.

Cleaning Expectations

  • Wash all dishes before you leave. You may leave them to dry on the rack or return them to where you found them.
  • Place used towels and linens on the floor of the laundry room.
  • Empty the refrigerator and do not leave any food behind.


Trash Disposal

  • Bag all trash and place it in the outdoor dumpster located by the gate.
  • Do not leave food or trash outside as it attracts wildlife.
  • Please use the compost bin in the kitchen for all your food waste


Fire Safety System

  • No candles, incense, smoking, or open flames are allowed inside the cabin.
  • Cabins are equipped with automatic fire sprinkler systems that activate with heat or flames.
  • Indoor smoke (even from cooking) can trigger alarms or sprinklers, please ventilate properly.


Quiet Hours

  • 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Please avoid loud music, parties, or disruptive behavior during these hours to preserve the serenity of the forest.

Outdoor Rules

Access & Parking

  • Our property is accessed via a 2.4-mile Forest Service Road, open only to street-legal vehicles.
  • If you’re bringing other vehicle types (e.g. ATVs or dirt bikes), please check Sam Houston National Forest regulations for sticker or permit
    requirements.
  • Parking on the Forest Service Road is strictly prohibited.


Pet Policy

  • Pets are welcome only in designated pet-friendly cabins (max 2 per cabin).
  • Always leash pets outdoors and clean up after them.
  • Pet-related damage may result in added charges.


Pond Safety

  • No swimming in the pond.
  • Children must be supervised by an adult near water.
  • Kayaks and paddleboards are used at your own risk, and life jackets are required.

Fishing

Hunting, Firearms & Fireworks

  • Hunting is strictly prohibited on Lost Forest Cabins property.
  • Open carry firearms are not permitted on-site.
  • Fireworks are not allowed under any circumstances.
  • Some nearby areas allow seasonal hunting — wear high-visibility clothing and check dates via TPWD Hunting Info

Outdoor Fire Safety

  • Campfires only in designated fire pits.
  • Fires must be attended at all times and fully extinguished after use.
  • Smoking and open flames are not permitted on decks.


Wildlife Etiquette

  • Do not feed or approach wildlife.
  • Feel free to enjoy birdwatching — you might spot bald eagles or the red-cockaded woodpecker!

Equestrian Access

  • Horses are welcome on designated forest trails.
  • A negative Coggins Test must be carried at all times.
  • Horse trailers may be parked in designated areas.

Sustainability Guidelines

Help us protect the forest:

  • Minimize disposable waste, we provide reusable kitchenware and supplies.
  • Do not leave food, wrappers, or personal items outside to avoid attracting wildlife.
  • Use compost bin whenever possible.

Weather, Energy & Water Conservation

  • During storms, avoid trees and open water; follow emergency guidelines.
  • Turn off lights and water when not in use to conserve resources and protect the environment.

Off-Highway Vehicles (OHVs)

  • OHVs may be used only on designated trails in the National Forest with a valid Texas OHV decal.
  • OHV use is not allowed on Lost Forest Cabins property.
